Two seniors at Connelly High School in Anaheim, Jessica Willshire and Karafaye Buffa, have been recognized by the 2008 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards in California. Nearly 4,500 local honorees were reviewed by state-level judges, who selected State Honorees and Distinguished Finalists based on criteria such as personal initiative, creativity, effort, impact and personal growth. For their impressive community service activities, Jessica Willshire will receive a Bronze Medal, as one of ten Distinguished Finalists, and Karafaye Buffa will receive a state-level Certificate of Excellence. Based on the number of hours volunteered by each student, Jessica and Karafaye also qualified for the President's Volunteer Service Award. This award recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country.
