Connelly High School Student Named "Sugihara Scholar"

Travels to Japan to Support "A World of Difference"

Caitlin Lang, a junior at Connelly High School in Anaheim, was selected to represent the Los Angeles area at the Anti-Defamation League's National Youth Leadership Mission.  In November, Caitlin and 110 students from across the U.S. gathered at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.  Based on essays about the remarkable bravery of Japanese Ambassador Chiune Sugihara, five of these students, including Caitlin, were selected to become "Sugihara Scholars" and were invited to travel to Japan.  During the last week of January, the students traveled to several cities in Japan, stayed with Japanese families, met city dignitaries, and promoted communication between people of all backgrounds and cultures.  Caitlin, as a part of the ADL Youth Program "A World of Difference," will continue to be involved in local events and programs that foster discussion between people of all backgrounds.
