About The Parents Association

Every parent or guardian of a student attending Cornelia Connelly School is a member of the Parents Association and is encouraged to participate in its activities. Membership is included as part of your student's registration at Connelly.

The purposes of the Connelly Parents Association are:

  1. To foster the building of relationships among students, parents, administration and faculty of Cornelia Connelly School.
  2. To support the social, spiritual, educational and financial programs of Cornelia Connelly School.
  3. To assist the administration and faculty in their efforts to achieve the goals of the School as described in the statement of philosophy.
  4. To promote parental involvement at Cornelia Connelly School.

Board meetings are held monthly throughout the school year. However, all parents are welcome to attend these meetings in order to stay informed on school activities and express any questions, concerns or suggestions for improvement. In addition to our monthly board meetings, all-parent meetings are held twice during the school year.

Family Service Hour Program

The purpose of the Family Service Hour Program is to encourage parent participation in the life of the school and provide opportunities to share memorable experiences in your teenage daughter's life. When a school enjoys a high level of parent participation, the educational experience of the students is significantly enhanced. In the spirit of community, parents also get to know one another and create lasting friendships, while assisting the school to provide valuable programs and support fundraisers that keep school expenses down.

Requirements
Each family is required to serve at least 20 hours annually. Students are not allowed to serve hours in lieu of their parents, however, other family members and friends may earn hours for your family. Any hours not served by the end of the school year will be billed at a rate of $10 per hour.

How To Get Credit For Hours Served:
The following activities "count" for Family Service Hours:

  • Volunteering for a teacher / staff person, club, athletic team, event or committee.
  • Volunteering at school events such as meetings, conferences, games, performances and fundraisers.
  • The full 20 hours credit is given to anyone who serves as a committee member of the Board of Trustees or on the Parents Association Board as an Executive Board member or as a committee/event chair.

A number of volunteer opportunities are listed below. For additional opportunities or questions, please contact the Development Office at (714) 776-1717 ext. 221.

Sign-in sheets will be provided at school functions for which service hour credit is given. To claim your service hours for participating at these events, please be sure to sign in. You may also claim your hours by downloading and completing this form (pdf) and turning it in to the Development Office.

Tracking Your Hours
Family Service Hours can be tracked on Ed-line. Hours will be updated on the first Monday of each month. For instructions on how to check your hours on Ed-line, please click here. (pdf)

Tips For Serving Your Hours:

  • Don't wait until the last minute to serve your hours! You will be less stressed at the end of the school year if you volunteer regularly throughout the entire year.
  • Get a group of friends together and volunteer for an event/committee/sport that interests you! It's amazing how quickly the 20 hours goes by when you're having fun.
  • Be sure to track your hours. We make every effort to keep our records clean and up-to-date, but your help will be appreciated if questions do arise.
  • Consider co-chairing or chairing a Parents Association activity. Some activities actually require less than 20 hours of work, but you still get credit for 20 hours of time!
