Connelly Student Elected Junior State of America Senator Friday through Sunday, April 28-30' fifty students from Connelly High School in Anaheim joined over 1,200 students from Southern California and Arizona to participate in Spring State 2006 - Junior State of America, "America at the Crossroads," held at the Hilton Hotel, Los Angeles Airport. Junior State of America is a student-run organization. In local chapters and at the conventions students have the opportunity to debate and discuss current events, be active and informed student citizens, and to decide what future they would like to see for themselves, their country, and their world. Following very persuasive nomination speeches by juniors Elsa Valle and Kristine Lee, Katya Khazei was elected JSA Southern Empire Region Senator. For their powerful debates on Oil Drilling in ANWR and Smoking Bans, juniors Katya Khazei and Sara Teal won "Best Speaker" Awards. Junior Kirby McCord, and Sophomore Jessica Willshire, prepared and participated in debates, and Kirby moderated a debate.
