Connelly High School Student Receives Mock Trial Award
March 5, 2007

Connelly High School Sophomore, Rachel Montrenes, of Westminster, was awarded an Outstanding Witness Award at the 26th Annual Awards Luncheon held for the Constitutional Rights Foundation Orange County Schools' Mock Trial Teams, on February 9, at the Hilton Hotel in Costa Mesa.  Nanci Lesley, English Teacher and Moderator of Connelly's Mock Trial Team, Rachel Montrenes '09, and Aron P. Rofer, Esq., volunteer attorney coach from Bingham & McCutcheon in Costa Mesa, represented Connelly at the luncheon.  Mock Trial teams competed the first half of the school year at simulated courtroom sessions in which students portrayed each of the principals in the cast of courtroom characters:  lawyers, witnesses, bailiffs, and clerks.  Student teams study a hypothetical case, conduct legal research, and receive guidance from volunteer attorneys in courtroom procedure and trial preparations.
