Cornelia Connelly School helps Catholic Charities programs assisting
Orange County's homeless families
ANAHEIM - Cornelia Connelly School donated 300 bags filled with personal hygiene products to Catholic Charities of Orange County this month. The donation was among the largest received to help Orange County's homeless families counted by the Jan. 22 census.
Students packed the bags with toothpaste, a comb, soap, lotion, deodorant, shampoo, socks, hand sanitizer, a plastic rain poncho and a granola bar.
Northgate Markets responded to Connelly's request to donate items also. The local store donated 300 zip-top bags and made a $500 donation toward socks that were included in the bags.
Connelly students and Head of School Sr. Francine Gunther presented the contributions at the school's Jan. 14 Mass which honored the birthday of the school's founder, Cornelia Connelly. The project was spearheaded by Connelly's community service liaison Lori Mullen. Connelly's donation was the largest from a single group participating in the call to help homeless persons, said Teresa Smith, executive director for Catholic Charities of Orange County.
