Book Club

The primary goal of Book Club is to encourage all students to take a break from their busy and stressful schedules to relax with a good book. We promote recreational reading and serve as an advisory group to the school librarian. We recommend books for purchase and volunteer in the library. Every month, members choose a book from a different literary genre, for example, November is espionage month and February is all about romance. We create book trailers to present at school-wide assemblies, write a newsletter that includes book reviews, and meet twice a month to share and promote our favorite books.

Book Club also organizes literary and book-related activities on campus such as monthly screenings of movies based on books, book displays, and various activities for programs such as National School Libraries Month and Read Across America. Additionally, we encourage all Connelly students to attend local literary events, such as the annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. Book Club members organize fundraisers to purchase books for the Connelly School Library collection. Every year, we also organize a school-wide book drive to collect children's books, which are donated to a local literacy advocacy organization. This year we are raising money and collecting books to send to Homeboy Industries, a youth group founded to assist high-risk youth in Los Angeles. As part of our Global Solidarity efforts, we will also donate to the Lubuto Library Project, an organization that works to build libraries in Zambia. We want to spread the joy of reading at Connelly and beyond.
